Real Steel
Real Steel | Location
The ‘Real Steel’ development is a brand-new, purpose-built 7,700m² steel processing facility in the Hautapu Industrial Park (Cambridge), strategically located in the heart of the Golden Triangle adjacent to State Highway 1. The facility will enable Real Steel to install some of the largest and most advanced steel processing machinery available in the Southern Hemisphere.
BCD Group provided Planning, Surveying, Geotechnical, Civil, Structural, and Fire Engineering services for Real Steel’s purpose-built facility. BCD worked alongside Foster Construction, T Plus Architects, and Fluid Engineering Consultancy to design and deliver the project.
BCD Groups' structural scope included the design of the warehouse and two-storey office, including superstructure supporting gantry cranes, foundations, seismic restraint and anchorage systems for floor-mounted specialist machinery.
Fire engineering formed a key part of the engineering scope, with fire modelling used to establish fire compliance for the warehouse and office. The solution followed a performance-based approach, applying Verification Method C/VM2 and fire engineering analysis to demonstrate compliance with the New Zealand Building Code.
